I am having trouble running 3ds Max 2009 32-bit and also 3ds Max 2010 32-bit on my new system. I can normally run the 64-bit versios, but the 32-bit ones crash just after I click the shortcut (send error report screen).I installed and re-installed many times, searched the internet for this error with no useful results. What could that be?I must use the 32-bit version so that I can open my ongoing prejects correctly (the 64-bit displays these files' meshes all wrong). If anyone could help me I'd be very thankful!my new system specs.Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bitIntel Core i7 860 2.8gHz4Gb RAM (2x2)Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1gbIntel p55 Motherboard500gb HD.
Why do you need to use the 32-bit version?I must use the 32-bit version so that I can open my ongoing prejects correctly (the 64-bit displays these files' meshes all wrongBut, it should not matter which version you use, the same scenes should load in either 32 or 64 bit versions regardless of which it was created in. So that may not be the root of the problem. Who is to say that even if the 32 bit version loaded, it would display the mesh correctly?I have known meshed corrupt before when loaded on a new version of Max, 6 to 7 I recall having a problem and I've heared people getting it on other upgrades. It was a while back, but I think I fixed it by collapsing everything. It may well be as Tim says, the OS.
I have installed the 32-bit on a friend's computer with the same windows verion. It worked and displayed the meshes OKI was beginning to believe it was the OS, but apparently not. Also, I installed 64-bit version there and the meshes went all wrong too, vertices all scattered. So the files are really incompatible between 32/64 bit.And unfortunately for me, there is some issue with my system that is not the OS.Just for the record, I updated all drivers and software here. All the other software I have are ok.
After effects, photoshop. All adobe ok. Even installed a game to test the video card and it was nice.I remember seeing a old post about maybe something about this??? Do a search it was right when 3ds max 2010 64 bit came out I think and I think a service pack or something fixed it???did some search and found nothing, timd1971. Well something is really wrong with your 32bit system and/or the installation of Max.I go between XP Pro and XP64 saving and opening 2010 files between the two without issue. Please fill out the Defect Submission Form with as much detail as possible. A 32bit file and the same file opened and saved on the 64bit version would be very helpful. As stated before, Windows 7 is unsupported.
But the developlers are looking at identified problems, but, they need to know the problems exist. Also, can you create a simply scene on the 32bit side, load it in the 64bit side and if it corrupts, zip both scene files together and post here. I would like to open both for further testing. I cannot seem to find it either. I think some posts got deleted some how from what i hear.the post was along the lines of meshes between 32 bit and 64 bit 3ds max 2010. There were some images attched to the posts.whcih i think were rims/wheels of a automobile as the example??? I think there was something also along the lines of a service pack or hotfix that fixed it (or didn't?) cannot remember. The post was back when 2010 just came out, and possible around after a couple monthes of being out.
It seemed to be a pretty BAD problem, especially since it was brand new, and people were having problems wuth there meshes in 64 bit version.so I think Autodesk jumped on it pretty quick. Not entirely sure.but some clues as to whast a I saw awhile back that may be similar to your problem OR not.I don;t think it had anything to do with Windows 7 64 bit (or vista 64 or Xp 64). It seemed between 32 and 64 bit versions of 3ds 2010.

It was right when 3ds max 2010 64 bit came out I think and I think a service pack or something fixed it???You do have the latest SPs and Hotfixes installed, on both versions? If no, that must be it.Also, can you create a simply scene on the 32bit side, load it in the 64bit side and if it corrupts, zip both scene files together and post here. I would like to open both for further testing. If yes, it could be something perculiar to your scene. Do tests with other scenes, or upload your scene for other to test.Like Tim, I have no problem going between Max 32 and 64.
